The Petroleum Training Institute(PTI), Effurun is the only Institute in Sub Saharan Africa with on the ground available training facilities that can address contemporary training needs of workers of oil and gas industry in the continent.

This was disclosed by Dr. Henry A. Adimula, Principal/ Chief Executive, Petroleum Training Institute(PTI), Effurun at a Press Conference to mark the 50 years(Golden Jubilee) anniversary of the Institute, he said that the Institute’s Specialized Diving Centre is equipped with state of the art facilities such as Decompression Chamber and Dive tank that gives room for practical welding training such as Under Water Cutting among others.

Dr. Adimula further disclosed that the Institute’s efforts in keeping with its Vision and Mission of being the leading oil and gas technological Institute in Africa as well as providing competent technological manpower through quality training, consultancy and research for the Industry has yielded positive result where expatriate technicians in the oil and gas industry in the country are now being replaced with graduates of the Petroleum Training Institute.

The Principal/Chief Executive of the Petroleum Training Institute said that the Institute is working assiduously towards becoming an international certifying body for Dive Medic Technicians programme that will attract training opportunities not only in Nigeria but also the whole of Africa.

According to Dr. Adimula, “we are grateful to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund(PTDF)for sponsoring the Institute’s upgrade project which culminated in infrastructure upgrade and procurement of various specialized facilities that uniquely positioned the PTI as the only Institute in Sub-Saharan Africa with the magnitude of training facilities that can address the contemporary training needs of workers of the oil and gas industry in the continent.”

On some of the achievements of the Institute in the last 50years, Dr. Adimula said that the Institute trained the take-off staff for the Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC)and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), has graduated well over fifty thousand technologists and technicians who are the most preferred choices for employment by employers in the country as well as collaboration with Dangote Oil Refinery Company for the training of its staff among many others.

On the Institute’s Vision for the next fifty years, Dr. Adimula has this to say, “is for PTI to be the Energy hub in Africa where our training, research and development efforts will be all encompassing as the whole ambit of the energy mix shall be the subject of training, research and development.”
