A chieftain of the Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD), Hon. Hon. Okoro who was the ACD running mate to Hon. John O. Breakforht during the 2015 election, stated this against the background of the recent Supreme Court judgement which affirmed the election of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as the duly elected governor of Delta state.

Hon. Okoro who spoke to our correspondent in Warri recently, said he was very happy with the Supreme Court Judgement as it has proven that Governor Okowa is a man loved by majority of Deltans.

Hon. Okoro added that he had already predicted that Governor Okowa was going to come out victorious even before the legal battle began, stressing that, that was why he had earlier advised the duo of Chief Great Ogboro and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor not to go to court.

He therefore, called on Governor Okowa to form a unity government now that the Supreme Court has laid all legal battles to rest, adding that he should reconcile with all other political parties so that the state can move forward.

“Now that the legal battles have been laid to rest by the Supreme Court, I expect Governor Okowa to form a unity government like it is done in advance countries. He should give appointment to some of the people that belonged to other political parties. It has worked in other advanced countries and I do not see any reason why it should not work here in Nigeria. He should not look at it as a PDP affair alone,” Hon. Okoro said.

Speaking on the recent kidnapping of royal fathers in the state, Hon. Okoro advised that people should be more security conscious and know those that are living around their environment as it will help a lot to nip some of these kidnappings in the bud.

While condemning the act, Hon. Okoro said security should not be left in the hands of the security agents alone, stressing that all hands most be on deck to reduce the menace.

When asked to comment on the performance of Governor Okowa’s administration so far, Hon. Okoro said that it was too early to begin to access the performance of the governor as he has just started his first tenure.

On the issue of corruption, he advised President Mohammadu Buhari not be selective as he goes about fighting corruption in the country, saying that the fight against corruption must not be seen as a tool to witch-hunt members of the opposition party.

He appealed to President Buhari to take agriculture very seriously by providing good seedlings and farm instruments like tractors to the farmers, noting that agriculture still remains the only sector that can employ thousands of youths in the country and reduce the unemployment rate.
