Residents of Uvwie Kingdom, mainly women from Erovie, Ugbomro, and Iteriegbe communities, on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, staged a peaceful protest against the planned visit of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to Ogbunuowhoru, also known as Ugbolokposo, an Itsekiri community in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state .

The protesters, bearing placards with inscriptions such as “Uvwie Rejects the visit of Olu of Warri,” “We only have one king in Uvwie,” and “Ogbunuowhoru is in Uvwie Kingdom,” marched and danced from Effurun Market to Erovie community, which borders the Itsekiri settlement the Olu is scheduled to visit on Thursday, June 26, 2026.
Speaking with newsmen, the protesters including the President General of Ugbomro community, Chief Ese Okwofaraye ,the President General of Erovie, Chief Tom Eyejewefe JP and a representative of the women, Elizabeth Ejedegba said the Olu of Warri should first pay a courtesy visit to the Ovie of Uvwie, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, JP, OON, Abe I, before visiting any community within the Kingdom.
They described the planned visit without prior notification to the Ovie as “a slap on the face,” insisting that Ogbunuowhoru falls under the authority of the Uvwie monarch.
According to them, the people of Ogbunuowhoru are settlers who came to the area to fish many years ago.
The protesters advised Ogiame Atuwatse III to abort the visit and “do the needful” by first notifying the Ovie of Uvwie to avoid any form of clash.
