As part of its continuous success in the battle against  criminal elements in Delta State, the police has gunned down one armed robbery suspect and arrested eleven armed robbery suspects and cultists.

According the the State Commissioner of Police, CP Alkali Baba Usman, who addressed newsmen yesterday, at Ughelli Local Government Council Area, the police is poised to rid the state of all criminal elements.

He appealed to the public to always furnish the police with useful information about known criminal hide out in their domain.

“I wish to use this opportunity to assure the good people of Delta state that we shall continue to maintain the tempo in order to ensure the reign of peace in every part of the state during the ember months and at all times. I ask that the public continue to support our efforts by giving us useful and timely information on known criminals and their hideouts within their domains,” he said.

Giving a summary account of their success in the fight against criminality in the state, CP Usman said the six armed robbery suspects were arrested at Ughelli, Oghara and Isiokolo areas, while the five suspected cultist we’re also arrested at Ughelli, Oghara, Agbarho and Isiokolo towns.

One armed robbery suspect was killed by the police in a gun duel between the police and the armed robbery suspects at Isiokolo town.

He said: “On 27/09/2015 at about 0400hrs, the DPO, Isiokolo division received information that one Okparabenyo Jude ‘m’ and one other were under attack by a gang of armed robbers in Isiokolo town.

“Based on the information, a combined team of police patrol men and vigilante quickly mobilized to the scene where the hoodlums engaged them in a gun duel. In the process, one of the armed robbers, one Femi Okpo ‘m’, said to be a notorious criminal in the area was gunned down, while his accomplice one Ambrose Emekana ‘m’ was arrested.”

He said investigation into all the cases is ongoing.
