Three accused persons, Mr. Oghor Osie; Mr. Great Obawakpor and Mr. Tejiri Akpofure have been sentenced to twenty one years in prison, with hard labour for rape by Justice F.O., Ohwo, sitting at High Court 2 Warri.

Honourable Justice Ohwo gave the sentence recently, while giving his judgment on the three accused on three count charges of conspiracy, abduction and rape.

Jury

Hon. Justice Ohwo after taking his time to read through the charges dismissed two of the counts of conspiracy and abduction, saying that they are punishable under section 516 and 361 of the Criminal Code.

The three individuals were said to have hijacked a teenage girl on the 15th December 2012 and took her to an apartment where they forcefully raped her.

The prosecution said that the girl lost consciousness after each of the young men took their turn in raping her while she pleaded with them to no avail.

Honourable Justice Ohwo, who thoroughly went through the account of all the variables in the case, pronounced twenty one years imprisonment with hard labour on the accused.

He added that they can seek for redress at the Court of Appeal, if they so desire.

Honourable Justice Ohwo stated that there is still punishment for rape cases under the law, adding that the sentence will serve as deterrent to others who are still indulging in the wicked act.
