The rumour making rounds that handset is used to fly planes at the Asaba International Airport has been laid to rest as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Wednesday had a smooth landing at the Asaba International Airport.

Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama (SAN) alongside top government functionaries who received President Goodluck Jonathan at the Asaba International Airport, expressed joy over the safe, smooth landing and flying of President Jonathan.

President Goodluck Jonathan who was on his way to Akwa, Anambra State for the grand finale of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, campaign for the Anambra state governorship election slated for Saturday 16th 2013, arrived at the Asaba International Airport at 11.30am and took off at about 5.30pm.

Prof. Utuama expressed happiness over the safe and smooth arrival of the president to the Asaba International Airport, asserting that the arrival of Mr. President has further certified that the airport has met international standards.

He noted that before now, President Jonathan used to do indirect landing either in Benin or Osubi Airport and take helicopter; but now, the situation has changed.

In a chat with the trio, Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, Chief of Staff Government House, Asaba, Dr. Festus Okubor and Special Project Director, Asaba International Airport, Austin Ayemidejor said that the landing of President Jonathan at the Asaba International Airport has confirmed the status of an international airport, adding that Mr. President’s safe landing at the airport was an attestation to the volume of safety standards and status of the Asaba International Airport.
