By Francis Sadhere, Warri

Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, has called for measures to avert a recurrence of the tragic death of over 10 pupils of Army Day Primary Children, Effurun, that occurred yesterday, Thursday July 8, along the ever-busy NPA Expressway in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Reports had it that the gory incident, allegedly occurred at about 3pm, when driver of a tanker laden with petroleum product coming from the Warri Axis of the NPA Expressway, suddenly lost control as a result of brake failure and ran over some of the pupils, who were purportedly opposite the ‘3’ Battalion Army Barracks, on their way home from school.

The Warri South Council Boss, in a statement issued today, Friday July 9, condoled with families of the deceased, others who sustained injuries, the management of Army Children School and his Uvwie Local Government Counterpart, Hon. Ramson Tega Onoyake.

Dr. Tidi, urged authorities of Army Children School, Army Day Primary School, Parents’ Teachers Association of both schools and other critical stakeholders, to fashion out safety measures to avoid a reoccurrence of such tragedy, just as he enjoined tanker drivers and other vehicle owners, plying the NPA Expressway to reduce their speed when approaching the axis where the schools are situated.
