The Students’ Union Parliament under Supreme Students Senate/Students Representative Council of the Delta State University, Abraka has bestowed an Award of Excellence on Hon. Evance Ochuko Ivwurie, member representing Ethiope East in the Delta State House of Assembly, Asaba for his effective and admirable representation to the people of his constituency.

Presenting the Award of Excellence to Hon. Evance Ivwurie on behalf of the body, the Senate President of the 23rd Assembly, Senator Frank-Efe Laurel, said we came here today to present an award of excellence to Hon. Evance Ochuko Ivwurie for the effective and admirable representation to the people of his constituency.

While thanking him for given the student body the opportunity to meet with him, Senator Efe Laurel, who is also a 400 level student of Medical Biochemistry in the Delta State University, Abraka said the decision of the award was based on deliberation of the House to honour him for his outstanding performance and legislative accomplishments.

“We admire your leadership qualities in the Hallow Chamber of the Delta State House of Assembly. Our visit to you is not by accident or error. We planned it. There is only one thing that is paramount in the Parliament and that is effective decision and proper representation,” he also said.

According to him, over the last two years we have been watching you on your leadership qualities which gave birth to this award of Excellence to recognized your good representation and as a catalyst for you to increase the rate you represent your people.

Speaking in the same vein, Hon. Nwabeze John, Clerk of the Students Representative Council and a 400Level student of the department of Physics; Senator Young A. Agbure, a 500Level student of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Senator representing Faculty of Engineering; Hon. Benjamin Oritsemuelebi a 400Level student in the department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic and a member of the Students Representative Council and Senator Gabriel Dede Ukubenji, a 400Level student in the department of Microbiology and Senator representing Faculty of Science and Chief Whip thanked Hon Ivwurie for encouraging them to becoming better future leaders in Nigeria.

Responding joyfully, Hon. Evance Ochuko Ivwurie thank the student group for the honour bestowed on him, saying in keeping with the spirit of focus, I have rejected many awards and plaques because I don’t want to be distracted but this particular one is honest and therefore dear to me.

In his words, “I want to say this award is very dear to me. It touches my heart and I wholeheartedly accept it because of the honesty, humility and simplicity of the awardee.”

According to Hon. Ivwurie, “I have dedicated myself to the protection of lives and property of my constituents. I am championing the grazing bill to be pass into law. I will be one of the happiest Nigerian to see the day that bill is passed into law”.

“I have worked on that bill very assiduously. The bill had gone through first, and second reading, and the Committee stage through an excellent public hearing. I have presented the report to the Committee of the whole house. The Committee of the Whole House have looked at it section by section and we are right now in section 8 and by next week, we will speed up to section 20 and finish it and pass it into law,” he added.

Hon. Ivwurie stated that “I am also confronting electricity problem in my constituency, road network and infrastructural development. I know God is with me and my constituency. I am assuring you that this award will never make me to lose focus, it will only fire me to do more for my people and I am hoping to see you guys at the top.”
