The National Chairman of the Urhobo Political Forum (UPF), Chief Ighoyota Amori, has applauded the decision of Barr. Obaisi Omo – Agege to enter the 2015 gubernatorial race, saying the governorship hopeful has made the Urhobo Nation proud.

Speaking during the aspirant’s visit to the UPF in furtherance of his exchange of view with stakeholders on his governorship bid, Amori said the governorship hopeful has the capacity to prosecute the gubernatorial ambition and win the race.

Amori expressed happiness that a prominent Urhobo son who is a match to governorship aspirants from other parts of the state has decided to join race, saying Omo – Agege has bridged an obvious gap with his aspiration.

“What others have, we also have and what we have is greater than what they have,” he added.

He said that “only those with a third eye will understand what I mean by his ‘making Urhobo proud,” Amori noted that “let me try my best so that I don’t expose my emotions, but I will try my best. I think from what we have seen so far, we have no cause to be ashamed again. This is something that we are all happy about.”

He advised the people to suppress their interest to enable them pursue the interest of the Urhobo people in their political calculations and pointed out that the formation of the UPF in 2005 was borne out of the need to provide a platform for the Urhobo people to express themselves politically and defend the Urhobo interest.

“People must take pressure groups seriously. It is not something for individuals; it is something that is collective, and I say you are not defending Barr. Obaisi’s interest but you are defending our mutual interest. There must be a platform to defend, to promote the political interest of the Urhobo people. Politics is very vital in our lives,” he added.

He said the UPF has concluded plans to embark on a rally in Ughelli North Local Government Area on 20 July, 2014 in Ughelli North Local Government Area in the political interest of the Urhobo nation.

Amori further advised the people to avoid the mistakes of the past and be steadfast in defending the Urhobo interest.

Earlier in his remarks, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege noted that his governorship bid was being mistaken for desperation, reiterating that his decision to join the race stemmed from his passion to give good governance to the people of the state. “My aspiration is not borne from my being an Urhobo man. My aspiration is propelled by my desire to govern the state with a pan Delta agenda,” he added.

Reiterating his determination to protect the legacies of the state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, he assured that all uncompleted projects commenced by the present administration would be completed.

He said “I have the capacity to protect the interest of all Deltans as governor.”
