Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon (Dr) Micheal Tidi on Wednesday said his administration was committed to developing all markets in the council.


Tidi stated this when the executive of the Pessu Butchers Association, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Warri South Secretariat.


Tidi who said that it was the duty of local government to maintain markets, promised to assist the Pessu market Butchers Association in the ongoing building of the state of the art abbartoir in the market.


The Warri South council boss said his administration was committed to ensuring that all the markets in Warri South meet world standards.


He said gone were the days whereby abbartoirs in Warri used to look like dump sites, adding that his administration will do all it can to ensure that all abbartoirs in the council were up to standards.


He however said that the upgrade of the abbartoirs will depend on the availability of funds to the council, stressing that allocation to states across the country have dropped as a result of fall in oil prices and the covid-19 pandemic.


“I want to commend you for coming to pay me this visit and to congratulate us on our victory at the last election. We want to let you know that your message is well received.


“I also want to commend you for a job well done as it concerns the construction of the new Pesu abbartoir. Before you started the construction, I was there and I really appreciate the level you have reached so far.


“Management of abbartoir is the role of the local government and we assure you that we are going to give you our support. We are also going to look at the abbartoir in Igbudu market and wet will do something about it too.


“We are tired of seeing our abbartoirs look like dump sites,” Tidi said.


Earlier, Chairman of the Pessu Butchers Association, Mr Toju Awala said they were in the Chairman’s office to congratulate him on his victory at the last election.


He said they were also there to intimate the chairman on the level of work done so far at the new abbartoir the association is constructing in the market.


He said the new Pessu abbartoir, which had been roofed already, had cost them the sum of N14.8 million appealing to the council to assist them in flooring the abbartoir.
