With regards to a report that the Delta State House of Assembly intends to pass a bill that will make Sam Obi, who was Acting Governor some years back under Uduaghan Reign, to start enjoying pension benefits of a Governor but reduced to Deputy, we believe this is another senseless and preposterous bill that should not be allowed to see the light of day.

With such obnoxious practices in the State in handling public funds, what will be left for the State to pay workers, pensioners, and also embark on infrastructure. If they use all the funds to pay former and present politicians in power, including their appointees who are doing nothing, and are without any known portfolio and function, what will happen to the masses in this equation?

When Uduaghan was sacked by the Appeal Court on Delta Governorship election, Sam Obi, the then Speaker acted in that capacity. Should this now make him to be counted as one who should enjoy the pension benefits of a Governor? Obviously not!

Seriously, The cost of running government is just too high. The Delta State government can’t pay pensioners their gratuities, but yet they can pay idle politicians and their appointees who have contributed nothing.

Is it not shameful that the Delta State legislators couldn’t hold the State governors responsible for failing to pay pensioners, but can pay idle politicians?
