Local vigilante group in Marine Quarters, Warri on Thursday last week gunned down one suspected armed robbers while two escaped with bullet wounds.

The suspected armed robber was alleged to have been terrorising 3rd Marine quarters and its environ in Warri before he met his death.

It was learnt that the suspect alongside members of his gang left Ugborikoko, to Marine quarters where they allegedly robbed and were on their way out when they met resistance from local vigilante group who were alerted of the robbery incident in the area.

A police source who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday said that the suspected robbery gang had engaged the vigilante in a gun duel and in the process, one of them was gun down while two others escaped.

Confirming the incident, the vigilante chairman in Marine quarters who simply gave his name as Onwene, said they responded to a distress call from the area and moved in but met serious resistance from the armed robbery gang.

“While approaching the scene, some of the gang members who laid ambushed opened fire on them and in the process of retaliating, one was shot dead while the others escaped,” Onwene said.

He said that the deceased robber was later handed over to police at “B” Division in Warri at dawn.

A police source close to the ‘B’ police station who spoke to our correspondent confirmed the report.
