AN All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for Delta Central Senatorial District bye-election  Olorogun O’tega Emerhor has said the time for money bag politics in Urhobo land was over, saying   now is the time for the Urhobos to stand and fight as one to claim their lost glory in the Nigerian politics.

Olorogun Emerhor stated this at Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Council of Delta State, while paying a consultation visit to Chief Matthew Aghomi.

While decrying the pathetic state the Urhobo nation had found itself in theNigerian politics,  Olorogun Emerhor called on genuine sons and daughters of Urhobo land who have been complaining in silent to come and fight for their right.

“I tell you, what is happening to Urhobos is very pathetic. As we speak right now there is nobody that can stand and talk for the Urhobos. Only the late Senator Pius Ewherido was the person we had. Look at Abuja, Delta State, look at NDDC and look at everywhere. Forty boards were put together recently but how many Urhobos are in the board? It is because there is nobody to fight for the Urhobos. They wanted  an Urhobo man in the police commission but he was the only one that was not approved. We produce enough oil, we have enough population. So let us send a credible person to Abuja,” he stressed.

He said; “A lot of people in Urhobo land complain in their rooms because to be in the opposition is not easy. It is for the strong hearted, for people who are ready to sacrifice themselves. A lot of our brothers are in a place where  they do not gain anything from. Where they are right now, they do not eat on the table but rather, they eat from the crumbs that falls from the table.”

He said that if the Urhobo nation must move to its rightful position in the polity, it has to embrace a bigger party that has a national acceptance, noting that APC is the party that will liberate the Urhobos from the political marginalization that it is currently facing.

Olorogun Emerhor called on Urhobos to put their weight behind a credible candidate who will stand to fight the cause of the Urhobo nation, adding that though being in opposition is tough task, with determination they can wrestle power from the ruling party.

He urged the Urhobo nation to be strong in their determination to gain recognition, noting that it was high time they started dinning with the high and mighty in the country being the fifth largest ethnic group in the country.

Earlier, Chief Matthew Aghomi said that it was high time the Urhobo nation moved to a more reliable party where they could enjoy the dividends of democracy, stressing that the Urhobos have not gained anything meaningful from the ruling party for the past thirteen years they have been in power.

He bemoaned the poor state of Urhobo nation under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, saying that the Urhobo nation has been relegated to the background at both the state and the federal level, a situation he said has impoverished the people.

He assured Olorogun Emerhor that his people will queue behind him during the election, stressing that they can only support him if he promised them that he will not abandon them when he gets there.

Chief Aghomi who said he was happy for the visit, lamented that over the years Ijere kingdom had pulled the highest votes for successive governments but with nothing to show for it.
