… As UPU youth wing passes vote of confidence on him

Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area on Thursday urged Urhobo youths in the state to be more united, stressing that they should not let allow the efforts of the founding fathers of UPU to be in vein.

Tidi made this call when the youth wing of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, paid him a courtesy visit at the Council’s Secretariat in Warri.

Tidi who was elated by the visit, commended the group for the visit saying that he was highly honoured.

The Warri South Council Chairman said his modest efforts in preventing crisis in Warri South cannot be overemphasized, stressing that as a detribalized young man, he believes in ensuring that Warri continues to be in the world map for the right reasons.

He said, “I am proud of what you people are doing. UPU has indeed come a long way as one of the oldest organization in the country.

“The founding fathers of the UPU have done their bit and it’s now left for the youths to support their elders to continue from where they stopped.

“We are the leaders of tomorrow. I am sure that when the likes of Chief Mukoro Mowoe and others conceived this idea of forming the group, they were not younger than some of you here. They saw a rosy future for the UPU.”

Tidi said he sees a future in Warri South Council and Delta state, where everybody will be accommodated irrespective of ethnic divide.

“Today an Urhobo man is representing Lagos in the National Assembly. This is what an area with cosmopolitan flavour looks like” Tidi said.

On the issue of ‘Wado City,’ being agitated by some youths, Tidi appealed to the proponents to channel their energy to things that will unite Warri rather than things that will divide it.

“Like I will always say, proponents of Wado City are poor students of history. A lot of people have sacrificed their lives for this peace that we are enjoying today in Warri.

“I want to appealed to their conscience. We need emphasize those things that will brings us together and not those things that will tear us apart. Right from when I took over as the Chairman of the Council, we have gone about our statutory duties, treating both divides equitable, fairly and with good conscience. Not necessarily because I have an Urhobo blood in my gene but because it is our common humanity that counts at the end of the day. Warri as a place belonging to all of us, the none Indigenes inclusive,” Tidi added.

He promised to assist the group in anyway he can to ensure that their activities move the Urhobo Nation forward.

Earlier, the youth wing of the UPU passed a vote of confidence on Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta.

The group said their reason for passing the vote of confidence on the Warri South Council Chairman was because of the role he has continued to play in maintaining peace in the council area.

The group, led by it’s 2nd Vice President, Mr. Owen Oghenero, on behalf of the President, Comrade Duru Ufuoma, noted that the group deemed it necessary to visit the chairman and commend him for his good works in the council.

“We want you to continue to maintain the peace and unity in Warri South. It’s not easy to be the chairman of a council that has the Urhobos, the and Itsekiris living together.

“We also want to use this opportunity to pass a vote of confidence on you for the effort you have put in place in maintaining peace in Warri South council,” Oghenero said.

The group promised to partner and support the Dr Michael Tidi led administration and ensure that the peace being enjoyed in Warri South council is sustained.
