Urhobo Elite Progressive Youth (UEPY),a socio-cultural group made up of Urhobo sons and daughters based in Cape Town, South Africa has extended its welfare programmes back home to better the lives of people of Urhobo nation.

The group led by Comr. Oghenebrume Chris Oriesa who hails from Okwagbe, Ughelli South Local Government Area led the youth group to donate thousands of notebooks and other educational materials to some selected schools in Urhobo land.

Comr. Oriesa who earlier led some members of the group visited some communities said that the group is out to encourage the young ones in Urhobo nation in their educational pursuit through the provision of educational materials and sometimes scholarship to the indigent ones among them as well as give opportunities to talented Urhobo people at home and in the diaspora.

He disclosed that one of the main objective of the group is to assist as well as encourage Urhobo sons and daughters to acquire standard education and skills that would enable them stand on their own in future adding, “if our children are better educated and acquire good skills, a better future of Urhobo nation is assured”.

Comr. Oriesa added that with available resources at their disposal, they would work hard to develop communities saying, “government alone cannot do it, hence we are lending a helping hand. I want to use this medium to encourage our young ones to take advantage of this opportunity and put to good use educational materials so received.”

According to Comr. Oriesa, “you will agree with me that it takes a man with the heart of gold who is not self-centred to work with others of like mind to contribute towards the development of his people and area. We have come to make the difference by contributing our little quota to help our people and communities in Urhobo nation.”

Speaking on behalf of others, a teacher simply identified as Mr. Oke expressed their appreciation the the group, he called on other groups to emulate the kind gesture of Urhobo Elite Progressive Youth (UEPY).

Schools that benefitted are Izomo Primary School, Erhuemukohwoarien, Evwrutu Primary School, Ovwiamuge, Agbarho among others.
