President Goodluck Jonathan has eulogised the virtue of the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom His Royal Majesty, Ovie Richard Layeguen. Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I.

The President made the commendation during the 96th birthday cum 25th coronation anniversary of the Olomu royal monarch.

President Goodluck Jonathan in his goodwill message read by Olorogun Moses Taiga, said, “As You celebrate the twin glorious occasion of your 96th birthday and the 25th anniversary of your coronation, I congratulate Your Majesty and the good people of Olomu Kingdom on behalf of my family, the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“It is my prayer that the legacy of peace, harmony, prosperity, and steadfastness progress which the Olomu Kingdom has witnessed during your reign will endure perpetually even as Almighty God blesses you with robust health and many more years of fulfillment.

“The ideals of uncommon patriotism, unassailable piety, sterling leadership qualities which you epitomize, are worthy traits which will continue to inspire us in our national transformation efforts. May God continue to protect Your Majesty and bless the people of olomu Kingdom and our nation, Nigeria.”

Our correspondent reports that it was a great moment, weekend in Olomu Kingdom as His Royal Majesty, Ovie R.L. Ogbon, Ogoni-Oghoro I, Royal Canon, the Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom celebrates his 96th birthday and silver jubilee on the throne amidst fanfare.

The monarch was installed as the only ordained Anglican Royal Canon in the World in 2011, also installed as the Okpako r’ Orere (Oldest Person) of Ogoni-Olomu, a retired Inspector of Education.

The ceremony was attended by the high and mighty in the society with President Goodluck Jonathan sending in goodwill message through Niger Delta Leader, Chief Edwin K. Clark as Prof. Amos Utuama, Deputy Governor represented Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan just at His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse II, Olu of Warri led a galaxy of traditional rulers.

The atmosphere was unique as Olomu sons and daughters led by Olorogun Moses Taiga, President General of Olomu Kingdom attired in the Ohworode of Olomu customized wrappers and shirts thronged the venue early to celebrate the longest serving King in Olomu and the present oldest monarch in Delta State.

The celebrant who dons in all red traditional royal attire atop a beaded Royal Canon cone shaped crown was radiating with joy and satisfaction when his long convoy entered the Otorere Olomu Secondary School, venue of the epoch making event.

Chief E.K. Clark, who chaired the occasion described the Ohworode as peace loving whose reign has brought great development to Olomu Kingdom.

According to him, “I congratulate you at 96, your reign has been peaceful, you have brought development to Olomu in the past 25years, I told the President about your anniversary, he sent a goodwill message, by the time you will be 100 any difference still hanging on would have been cleared.”

Governor Emmanuel Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama said, “Today is very special and historic, Ohworode is a King who is a recorder of affairs, he is the longest serving Ohworode; his reign of 25years has witnessed unprecedented development, we have many sons and daughters of Olomu who are well placed, what else does he need? On behalf of the Government of Delta State, we congratulate you.

“Of course for being the oldest reigning king in Delta State, we congratulate you, much as we said, the celebration is a worthy one, I am here representing the Delta State people, I want to thank everyone who came for this event, the longevity of our king be your portion.”
