Rotary Club of Sapele Urban District Rotary 9140, Nigeria Rotary International has promised to assist the school of the deaf/blind in Sapele as well focused on other humanitarian projects in the area to alleviate the sufferings of the less privileged ones.

The newly installed President of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban Rotarian, Henry Adeduwa Okorodudun who read his address soon after his swearing in at the Sapele Athletic Club said the present accommodation of the school of the deaf in Sapele is a rented apartment which they plan to build for them since they deserved support while calling on other persons in the society for more assistant to the physically challenged.

He maintained that for them to further demonstrate the clear vision of their founding fathers, Rotarian Paul Percy Harris, they want to share with the world the wonderful friends and family they have become in Rotary, which they believed will help them to carry on with their vision since Rotary is perceived as the most unique and successful humanitarian service organization in the world, saddled with the responsibility to render service above self in all ramifications and put smiles on the faces of the dejected and less privileged in the society.

Rotarian Okorodudun noted that they as a people, are completely overwhelmed by hunger and poverty immersed with the problems of various vices such as corruption, kidnapping, youth restiveness, lack of employment etc.  Challenges which has engulfed them to the extent that they rather think of their own survival at the expense of doing charity and rendering services both in kind and in cash to their fellow mankind.

The president of the Sapele Rotary Club said their major service project for this year is to the Christ Mission for the deaf noting that the organization has the goals to educate the deaf in Sapele and surrounding towns and villages to become self supporting and productive citizens, by sharing the burden of taking care of deaf children with their parents, community and governments, which he believed is within the confines of the national education policy.

He listed the needs of the blind/deaf people to include a land and a building, recreational facilities, office equipment as well as teaching aids, project which is estimated to cost about 20m, as he appealed to other Nigerians in assisting the needy to alleviate their sufferings, by putting smiles on their faces.

He added that his belief is that they should get some Paul Harris fellow on contribution of $1.000 to Rotary Foundation and more persons embracing the ideas of being members of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban and participating effectively.

Mr. Okorodudun revealed that the Club was chartered on November 19th, 2014 with 44members like the case with every service rendering organizations, noting that so many persons may fall at the way side due to several reasons not because the body is not willing but the pockets refused to cooperate as he commended the goodness of their sponsor, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt who sent Dr. Henry Monday Sota to Represent HRM Noble Eshemitan the then District Governor for the establishment the Club in Sapele.

On her part, Lady Judith Ojevwe Nwachukwu, the Chairman Induction Committee of Charter Presentation Ceremony induction 2015/2016 said it has been months of thinking, planning, writing and sacrifices of time, comfort and resources to make the day a dream come true, as she appreciated those who assisted them for their kindness and generosity despite the economic situation of our Nation at the moment.

Lady Nwachukwu who was also inducted alongside others commended their sponsor club, Rotary Club of Port Harcourt whom she described as their big parent for all the sacrifices especially their DGSR Dr. Henry Monday Sota who travelled highways, Rivers and  bridges to be with them for weeks, spoon feeding us on the rudiments of Rotary she said.

She further said that they are bringing to the fore, the magical moments of Rotary Traditions and the Essence of Rotary, appealing to those outside the family of Rotary to embrace it with all pleasure for it is very fulfilling and beneficial to all in the society.

She added that as they charter their Club and induct their first President of the Rotary Club of Sapele Urban District 9140 Rotarian Henry Adeduwa Okorodudun, words are insufficient to thank all Rotarians and friends of the Club for choosing to be honoured.
