President Joe Biden

When I read recent reports that the chance of Donald Trump being convicted in his impeachment trial in the US Senate looks less likely as of Tuesday (Jan. 26,2021), when 45 Republicans attempted to dismiss the proceedings before they began, I could not help but wonder why these people are still on this issue.

With 55 senators still supporting the trial, the Republicans’ objections were not enough to derail it, but to get a conviction 67 senators need to vote in favour. All I could see here is that the newly sworn-in US President, Joe Biden, and the Democrats, have got their priorities misplaced on this issue.

It seems as if President Biden and the Democrats will spend their useful time on this Trump impeachment trial, instead of concentrating on entrenching good governance. Trump is gone from the US White House. So, I think the Biden-led administration and the Democrats should concentrate on governance, rather than being derailed with these Donald Trump controversies.

President Biden campaigned for good governance, and now that he has been given the opportunity, he should not waste any time but should show his political skills. He should stop all the Trump this, and Trump that.

However, this is just my opinion on the America democracy presently, especially since America’s democracy is regarded as the foremost in the world, and the world economic power nation in the globe. Hence, they should get their acts right.

I am not a US Green card holder, and I am not interested in applying for US citizenship, or that of another country. I am simply a proud Nigerian and a proud African. It is our collective responsibility to build Nigeria and African Continent.
