A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Dave Okorare has kicked against the decision of the Party to hand over  structures of PDP to the Presidency and the Governors.

While picking holes in the decision of the party to hand over the structures of PDP to Governors which empowers them to choose their successors, Chief Okorare, a former Chairmanship aspirant of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, called for the immediate reversal of the decision, describing it as undemocratic.

Chief Okorare who spoke in an interview said that; “I am totally against the decision of our great party to hand over the structures of the Party to the Presidency and Governors. This is a wrong decision, it is undemocratic and it will encourage corruption.”

He queried that, “How can Governors that have failed the people, that have not performed are now being empowered again to choose their successors? This is most undemocratic; if this decision is allowed to scale through, it would mortgage the future and destiny of those states. This decision of the party will not give room for a level field contest for other aspirants that have been encouraged to collect nomination forms of the party.”

The PDP Chieftain also said, “Because of selfish interest, inflexible will, desperation to retain power, President Goodluck Jonathan has chosen the negative, crude, corrupt and undemocratic path and decision, forgetting the future and destiny of the electorate of those states. We are not in a hurry to forget the case of Ngige and Uba. Funds that are supposed to be channeled into developmental projects would be used at the end of the day to settle political fathers, leaving the electorate in penury. I must say that desperation has never led to a positive and fine end.”

By this action, he said, “President Jonathan is telling the world there will be no elections in 2015 but endorsement and selections. The electorate is losing confidence and sympathy for our great party by the day and may give opposition party an edge if care is not taken and if this decision not reversed.”

“The President should tackle the issue of building an enviable nation, fight corruption with all sincerity without fear or favour, fight unemployment and end insecurity and insurgency in the country as this decision is capable of causing unrest in the states if a candidate did not emerge through the popular vote,” he stated, adding that; “And other serious issues instead of endorsement and empowering the Governors to choose their successors.”
