The honorable member representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Solomon Ahwinahwi has congratulated the good people of ‎the area, the Governor, Deltans and indeed all Nigerians as they celebrate Nigeria’s  Independence anniversary.

Speaking to  journalists who visited him at his Warri residence in Delta State on Independence Day, Chief Ahwinahwi extended best wishes of fifty-five years of self-rule and control, praying that the desires of our forgone heroes and the promises of independence be fulfilled in the lives of Nigerians especially at this time of socio-political re-engineering.

‎He assured all Deltans, at home and abroad, of accelerated development in every area of the state as well as apparent improvement in the economic life of the people.

“As we celebrate Nigeria’s independence and usher in the period of festivity, I can assure all Deltans that under the ‎watch and leadership of a very capable governor in the person of His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, our people should celebrate and entertain no fear, ‎as we are about to experience a total economic overhaul and progress in the state as  well as genuine improvement in our lives”, he stressed.

The Ezomo of Agbarho Kingdom who‎ also spoke on sundry other issues affecting the nation, lamented the death of his kinsman and mentor, the late doyen of Nigerian business space, Deacon Gamaliel Onosode. Chief Ahwinahwi, with a suddenly changed tearful countenance, described the passage of the boardroom giant and elder statesman as the biggest calamity that has befallen Ughelli Kingdom and the saddest misfortune in the whole of Urhobo Nation.

The lawmaker, who referred to the late sage as his father and political guide, informed his visitors that Dr. Onosode hailed from Ekiugbo in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, thus making his demise even more regrettable. ‎

Honourable Ahwinahwi explained that the exit of the business titan and symbol of integrity is a scary reminder that the list of the finest creations of God would soon be exhausted, noting that the vacuum created by the illustrious son of Urhobo is comparable to the devastating adverse effect that the death of Chief Obafemi Awolowo had on the Yorubas of the West and that of the late Owelle of Onitsha on the Igbos of Eastern Nigeria.

“All I can say is that forever in our hearts and on the marble of history, this foremost technocrat, leading chief executive in Nigeria’s corporate environment and reputable sailor from Government College, Ughelli will always remain”, he remarked.

Those present at the independence briefing include Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftains‎ ‎in Delta State, Chief Okiemute Oviri, Chief Gabriel Ojoba and Dr. James Omorovwon. Others are Hon. Emudia Akponyoma, Chief John Ewenede and Dr. Wahab Odeli, among others.
