Mulade Pays Condolence Visit to Roli Uduaghan, Hails Late Governor as Peace Builder

From Francis Sadhere, Warri

The National Coordinator of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), Chief Comrade Sheriff Mulade, has described former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, as a peace builder whose legacy of conflict resolution, ethnic harmony and development will endure beyond his lifetime.

Mulade made the remark during a condolence visit to the widow of the former governor, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan, where he expressed solidarity with the bereaved family following the death of the former governor, who served Delta State from 2007 to 2015.

The CEPEJ national coordinator, who was accompanied by leaders and stakeholders, said the visit was to identify with the Uduaghan family in its moment of grief and acknowledge the contributions of the late governor to the peace and development of Delta State.

He said Uduaghan governed the state during a challenging period marked by conflicts and security concerns but drew on his leadership experience to address tensions and promote stability.

According to Mulade, the late governor earned the respect of Deltans through his efforts to manage conflicts and foster peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse ethnic groups.

“Our leader, our father, our former governor governed Delta State at a very difficult time. Delta State faced a lot of challenges, but he was able to use his experience in leadership to surmount all the conflicts that were engulfing the entire state,” he said.

Mulade assured the former First Lady and her children that the late governor’s family would not be abandoned in its period of mourning, promising continued support from those who valued his contributions to the state.

“Even if our leader and father has gone, we will not abandon the family. During the burial, we will participate fully to ensure that he is given a befitting burial as a former leader of this state,” he added.

The CEPEJ coordinator said Uduaghan’s legacy remained significant, particularly his administration’s Three-Point Agenda of Peace and Security, Human Capital Development, and Infrastructural Development.

He noted that the agenda reflected the former governor’s priorities in addressing security challenges, investing in people and improving infrastructure during his eight-year administration.

Mulade said the late governor’s commitment to peace and development would remain part of the state’s political and governance history, adding that his contributions deserved recognition beyond his years in office.

He also described Uduaghan as a detribalised Deltan who related with different ethnic groups and regarded himself as a father to all, irrespective of ethnic background.

According to him, the former governor’s emphasis on peace, security and development helped lay a foundation upon which subsequent administrations, including the present government, could build.

Mulade’s tribute comes amid expressions of grief over the death of the former governor, whose administration spanned two terms between 2007 and 2015.

He urged the family to draw strength from the late governor’s service to the state and the relationships he built during his lifetime.

The CEPEJ coordinator prayed that God would grant Roli Uduaghan, the children and other members of the family the strength to bear the loss, while granting the departed former governor eternal rest.

The condolence visit, according to CEPEJ, was part of efforts to demonstrate solidarity with the family and honour the memory of a former state leader whose public service remains a subject of reflection among Deltans.
