Suspected militants Wednesday night, killed two soldiers and four civilians in Ijere community, near Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

Militants-1The Commanding Officer, 3 Battalion, Major James Nzaka could not be reached for comments, but a top military officer confirmed to our reporter that militants in five speed boats stormed the community shooting sporadically, leading to the death of two soldiers and four civilians.

The source added that the soldiers were killed while trying to prevent heavy casualties on the side of the civilians during the attack.

Also contacted, a dependable source told our correspondent that the militants attacked a military house boat where some lives were lost.

He said, “Security men inside a house boat close to Omadino, near Warri, were killed by suspected militant group. It was a very serious matter. It happened just behind the Warri Refinary. We do not know the number of security men  that were killed in the attack. We also cannot tell if they were shot at or were blown up because right now, nobody can go there and verify.

Also, based on information available to us, there was a similar attack on security men too in Bayelsa state. But that one was more serious than the one that happened in Warri. The attack was done almost simultaneously. The one in Warri happened around 8pm while the one in Bayelsa happened around 6:30pm. The army gun boat was attacked and all the people in the boat were killed.”

As at the time of filing this report, the Niger Delta Avengers have not claimed responsibility for these attacks, but they have been linked to series of attacks in the Niger Delta region.
