President Goodluck Jonathan has re-assured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment in attracting peace and security as well as economic development so as to improve the living conditions of Nigerians if given another mandate in the March 28 general elections.

Speaking in Asaba, Delta State capital, when he led his campaign team on a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Obi Chike Edozien, at the weekend, Dr. Jonathan said he came to inform the monarch of his intention to contest for  another tenure and also seek his blessing as the royal father with a difference.

Dr. Jonathan expressed commitment to totally intensifying efforts to transforming the various sectors of the economy such as education, power, security, amongst others, adding that his administration has established 12 conventional universities in 12 states of the nation where federal Universities were not in existence as well as one Maritime University in Delta state in order to move the country forward.

He said that the health sector had received international recognition with the timely eradication of Ebola virus, even with the recent halt of guinea worm and polio, explaining that since June last year till now, the country had not recorded any case of polio.

Mr. President said that though, his administration had succeeded in constructing 20,000 kilometres of federal roads and the railway system that had gone moribund for about 30 years has come back to life for the past four years of his tenure, noting that extra 10, 000 kilometres of federal roads are ongoing.

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan pointed out that his administration had taken power sector very seriously, stressing that the issues of epileptic power supply in the country would soon be a thing of the past to enable the small and medium entrepreneurs to thrive.

He, however, pledged to keep fate with the promises he has been making as well as the admonitions of the royal father.

In his remarks, the Asagba of Asaba, HRM Professor Chike Edozien, expressed happiness on Mr. President’s visit, stating that Anioma people would vote massively for him(Jonathan) on March 28 this year.

Prof. Edozien said he was delighted for Dr. Jonathan’s courage to set up the National Confab that had given far sighted and very constructive commendation that if implemented, would put Nigeria first in the comity of nations.

According to the monarch, “We are hereby giving you our full support. Not because of the giant strides you made in the last six years, but because you are in the best position to implement the resolutions and recommendations from the National Confab”.

The Asagba however, called for the compensation of the families of Asaba indigenes who were massacred during the Nigerian/ Biafra war as they came to welcome the federal troops.

Earlier, the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Uduaghan said President Goodluck Jonathan was delivering on his promises to Nigerians, noting that Delta State was a great beneficiary of the restructuring of the power sector by President Jonathan’s administration.

He said that the President was in Delta State a few weeks ago for the Presidential Campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and as a man who loves Deltans, he was in the state for another official ceremony.
