IJAW-YOUTH-COUNCIL

By Our Correspondent

Gbaramatu Communities Chairmen in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State have called on all aggrieved persons/factions  in the just concluded Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide election to sheath their swords and work together for the interest of the Ijaw nation and pleaded that; “We should not allow three  years of power to destroy lifetime of togetherness. Let us unite against being divided”.

A faction of the IYC comprising  the  Leader of Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Muhajid Asari-Dokubo and others  kicked against the IYC election held in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State in which the former spokesman of IYC, Barrister Eric Omare emerged as the new President of the Council.

The aggrieved faction is planning to conduct what they described as the authentic IYC Worldwide election in the next few weeks.

But the  Chairman of Kokodiagbene Community, Comrade Sheriff Mulade who  made the call on behalf of the Chairmen of Gbaramatu Communities while reacting to the alleged emergence of Barrister Eric Omare  as the new President of the IYC, advised those not happy with the election of Barrister Omare not to rock the boat, but work for the interest of the Ijaw nation.

He  said that; ” We understand that some persons and groups are not happy over  the recent election of the IYC Worldwide held in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State  and we hereby appeal for calm in order not to create unnecessary tension in the Niger Delta region and to implore our leaders and elders to wade into the matter for us to have  a united IYC Worldwide that will be envy of all.”

He charged the  purported new IYC Worldwide President  to facilitate peaceful coexistence among other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria particularly in the Niger Delta region.

Comrade Mulade  noted  that the Ijaws have been in the forefront agitating for the development of the region especially IYC, saying that;  ” We want to urge you to focus on Ijaw and Niger Delta objectives devoid of politics to achieve our goals”.

He added that; “Do not compromise Ijaw and Niger Delta goals for political benefits. We  strongly believe in your leadership capacity and ability to pilot and champion the affairs of  the region to enviable height”.

According to him also;” We also want to appeal to all aggrieve persons  or groups to sheath their swords  and work together for the  interest of the Ijaw nation  because we are faced with enormous challenges and we cannot  tackle these challenges when we are divided. Three years tenure  of the newly elected EXCO of the IYC Worldwide is just like three days and so we should not allow this to bring disunity among us. We should not allow three  years of power to destroy lifetime of togetherness. Let us unite against being divided”.
