In line with the SMART agenda of his Excellency senator Ifeanyi Okowa to improve the educational standard in the state, chief (Dr.) Amos Itihwe (JP) – Commissioner representing Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie and Urhobos of Warri South in the Board of DESOPADEC has launched his support for education in his mandate area by giving out scholarship to pupils and students from Ofomor Primary school and Okparabe grammar school respectively.

In furtherance of his love and passion for education and concern for pupils and students, he has also started the distribution of note books to  schools in Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie and Warri South. Schools that have so far benefited from the distribution of note books include: Urhobo College Model School Effurun, Ogberikoko Primary school Effurun, Igbudu Primary School Warri, Essi College Warri, Ughenvwen Model Primary School Otu – Jeremi among others.

Chief  Itihwe during the distribution tour advised the pupils and students to be very serious with their studies, adding that they should avoid examination malpractice, cultism , truancy, smoking , alcoholism, rape,  taking of illegal substances, hooliganism, thuggery  and others.  He mentioned among other things that high rate of social vices can tarnish the image of a family and a country. It can destabilize a home and rumple the peace of a household.

In his words, chief itihwe told the pupils and students that “  the roots of education are bitter, but the fruits is sweet” “ Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom.” “ Education is an ornament in prosperity and refuge in adversity “.

Expressing government concern for education, the Commissioner stated that his Excellency is very much ready to build on the existing standard of education in the state, but need our collective support for him to succeed in doing that. He promised to do more such as rehabilitation / building of class room blocks, supply of school desk among others.  The pupils and students were so excited as they received the note books and words of encouragement.
