The Ijaw Publishers Forum (IPF), a
voice for the marginalized Ijaw oil-bearing communities in the Niger Delta is set to inaugurate its pioneer Executives Council.

Comrade Austin Ozobo, National President of the IPF worldwide, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Warri.

Ozobo said that the event was slated for February 29, 2024 at the Chief Tunde Smooth Playground, NPA, Warri, Delta state and urged the public to come and graced the event.

The IPF national president said that the Forum was an indigenous publishers association drawn from the Ijaw speaking journalists who had been practicing over the years.

According to him, the IPF is a sister body of the Nigerian Union of journalists (NUJ) with similar goals and mode of operations.

“IPF is established to give accurate reportage to the Ijaw marginalized oil-bearing communities in the Niger Delta who have suffered untold hardship in the midst of abundance,” he said.

Ozobo said that IPF was an independent body with no political inclination or ideological disposition.

He said that the Foundation was founded on the basis of speaking with one voice as a professional body.

“IPF can push for the interest of its members particularly in the areas of working conditions and rights.

“Freedom of expression and association, job security and fair remuneration, gender equality, copyright protection and among others,” he said

Ozobo, however, said that IPF also support campaign aimed at protecting journalists’ rights, strengthening collective interest as well as enhance free press in the country.
