Residents of Emevor community in Isoko North local government area of Delta state on Thursday night were devastated as heavy rain storm brought havoc to residents of the community leaving many families displaced and property worth several millions of naira destroyed.

The disaster which happened at about 8:10pm on Thursday night saw heavy downpour that destroyed several property, pulled down the roof of many houses. The downpour also destroyed over 50 electric poles, plants, facilities inside James Welch Grammar School and a lot more.

According to a resident of the community,  Isaiah Ogunye, who spoke with this reporter he said: “what has happened is disastrous and has rendered many families homeless. I sincerely sympathise with affected families. Indeed, we are in a perilous time. One can’t imagine how this kind of disastrous wind storm had destroyed one whole area of a community, leaving some part untouched. Surprisingly, there was no heavy rain.”

Meanwhile the chairman of Isoko North local government council, Hon Emmanuel Egbabor has expressed sympathy to the people of Emevor community, particularly the affected families over the disastrous wind storm that wrecked so much havoc in the community on that night.

Hon Egbabor, while thanking God for the protection of lives of the people of the community, said “with the damages done to the various homes and buildings, one can only thank God that no single life was lost.” He appealed to the people to embrace God and serve him faithfully, noting that “it’s only the act of God’s faithfulness that can cause this kind of protection.”

He called on individuals and corporate bodies for support, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as well as the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of the community and affected families.
