The former Governor of Lagos State and the present Honorable Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, and the Former Minister of State for Works, Dr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, who are both Alumnus of the University of Benin, would on Thursday November 26, 2016, Deliver lectures to commemorate its 42nd convocation/founders day ceremonies of the institution.

The message was made known to newsmen at the Senate Chambers of the Ugbowo Campus by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Faraday Orumwense during a press briefing organized to sensitize the general public and its stakeholders over their preparedness ahead of the convocation ceremonies which kicks-off on Wednesday November 23, 2016.

The 4-day events will kick-start with inter-denominational service, presentation of award of certificates, presentation of Convocation Lectures by guest lecturers and commissioning of the aforementioned projects at the Akin Deko Main Auditorium Ugbowo Campus

The event organized annually would see a total of 9,890 granduands cut across the institutional honors awarded various diploma and degree certificates of the university at this year’s convocation.

Prof. Orumwense in his summary noted that 154 Doctorate Degree, 2,531 Masters Degree honors will be awarded. Post Graduate Diploma has 233 graduands, with Under Graduate Degree having 9,281, Undergraduate Diploma 95, and unclassified 514 respectively.

The VC pointed out that a total of 61 graduands would be awarded a first class honors Degree for putting up outstanding performances.

He informed that one work of fiction in this year convocation is the admission of the first set of granduands of the National Institute of Legislative Studies Abuja Into the degree program of the institution whilst some members of the National Assembly takes their place in history as alumni  of the University.

Speaking further, the UNIBEN Gaffer enumerated some of his achievements in the last 2-year under his watch with over fifteen projects cut across board completed; they include An Ultra-Modern Library for College of Medicine, 500 lecture theatre facility, 500 capacity female Hostel, Botanical Gardens Research Building, centre for reproductive Health Initiatives Building and host of others.
