Dr Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Delta.

…Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays remain market days

From Thursday April 30, anyone caught without face mask in public places in Warri South Local Government Area, will face prosecution as a result of a new law enacted in Delta State.

This much was disclosed by Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, Wednesday April 29, at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, while addressing union leaders and representatives of major markets in the Oil City.

The Warri South Local Government Chief Executive, who directed leaders of the market unions to set up their internal taskforce to ensure compliance with the advisory on social/physical distancing in the markets, averred that Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, remain the only days that markets will open in Warri South Local Government Area.

While stating that those selling their wares along roads within the markets’ premises, should sell at their homes for the time being, so as to allow for social distancing, Dr. Tidi, ordered the immediate distribution of face masks to the market union leaders and representatives.

Dr. Tidi, noted that traders, security agents, media practitioners, artisans and commercial drivers, will be given priority in the distribution of the face masks made available by the state government.

He added that some of the face masks, would be distributed through councilors representing the 19 wards in the council, saying that his administration in collaboration with security agencies, will supervise the operations of the internal taskforces to be established by the market unions, in the determination to ensure full compliance of the advisory on social distancing.
