A notable politician in Delta State, Senator Ighoyota Amori has asked the All Progressive Congress APC to focus on delivering its electioneering promises to Nigerians and stop further political persecution of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Senator Amori who is the Special Adviser, Reconciliation and Conflict Management to the PDP National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff figured certain forces within the APC as behind the ploy to unseat Saraki as Senate President at all cost.

“The persecution of Saraki is all based on his emergence as Senate President against the expectation and plan of a cabal in the APC but, with majority support of senators who were committed and united to jettison the old order where the executive arm dictates the leadership of the senate” Amori stated.

He wondered why the APC that is clamouring for change in the polity of the country be interested in having a rubber stamp leadership of the National Assembly, urging the party to desist from further actions that are capable of creating an unhealthy relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government at the centre.

Reminding the APC that, he who must go to equity, must come with clean hands, Amori noted that the selective persecution and prosecution of members of the opposition party, the PDP in the guise of fighting corruption is not in the best interest of the nation.

Saraki he emphasized has charted a new direction for the senate and the National Assembly, accounting for the immense support he has continued to enjoy across party lines despite his present travail.

“Any attempt to remove Saraki as Senate President will spell doom in the senate with its attendant consequences on the political landscape of the nation. The APC should allow the current stability in the senate to continue to reign while it takes measures to rescue Nigerians from the present harsh economic situation.”

Senator Amori further drew the attention of the APC to similar scenario which played out in the House of Representatives under the PDP led government of Goodluck Jonathan, where Hon. Aminu Tanbuwal emerged as Speaker against the wish of the party but, he was allowed to reign and not persecuted throughout his tenure in the Green Chamber.

According to Amori, “what Nigerians require at this crucial time of the nation’s political evolution is a robust and purposeful legislature that is free from the executive interferences. Saraki’s has so far distinguished himself as a team player needed to foster harmony amongst senators in the onerous task of making laws for the good governance and security of the nation.”

He advised the APC to resort to political solution in resolving issues it has against Saraki, stressing that the party will still not have its way in installing its puppet as Senate President even if it eventually succeed in removing or forcing Saraki to resign.
