Advance Congress for Democrat party in Delta State, has called on the President Mohammadu Buhari, not to sell the country’s national asset noting that selling the country’s national aasset is not an alternative option to addressing the country present economic challenges

Hon. Johnbull Okoro, a chieftain of ACD who made this call in Ughelli, while speaking to newsmen on ways to revive the economy of Nigeria opined that, “the nation’s national asset is all it has for the future generation”.

“The government should ensure the implementation of tax justice in the country. This would prompt the generation of funds for the development of the economy, adding that tax evasion and tax waivers should be discouraged.

“It is only the poor and the working class that pay tax in this country, but if the high and mighty pay tax then we will have more than enough to go round.’’

“I urge the Federal Government to look into the country’s fiscal and monetary policy as well as take stock of the country’s asset. Maintaining that foreign exchange rate had not only added to the problem facing the country, but has also made few Nigerians wealthy,” he said.

Continuing he added, “In, the past administration, federal government has sold some of the country’s national asset in the past which have not benefited Nigeria. The ones that were sold in former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan administration didn’t add any value to the economy of the country, not to talk of now that we are facing economy challenges.”

He therefore, advised government to use available resources to drive economic development by embarking on projects such as building of roads and other infrastructure rather than investing in foreign trips.

Hon. Okoro also added that, there is also the need for government to block all forms of financial leakages, especially in the downstream sector.
