Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Dr. Michael Tidi, on Saturday gave owners of illegal structures in Warri and environs seven days ultimatum to remove such structures.

Tidi said after the expiration of the ultimatum the council will be forced to demolish any illegal structures it find on major roads and streets in the council area.

The Warri South council boss who gave this warning while monitoring the activities of the taskforce on beautification and the state environmental sanitation exercise , said there would be no sacred cows in its effort to keep the council clean and make it conducive for habitaion.

Recall that the council chairman had last week set up a task force on beautification with a charge to clear all illegal structures in Warri and environs.

Tidi warned that members of Warri South Council Taskforce on Beautification will be backed by security agencies when they commence demolition of illegal structures and other shanties along major roads and streets in the Oil rich City of Warri.

The Council chairman personally ordered persons occupying under the flyover connecting Ugbuwangue and Ogunu as well those trading by the roundabout close to Energy Link Road, Ugbuwangue in Warri, to vacate within seven days or face massive demolition of their structures.

“I want to advise all illegal occupants in these areas not to fall for the assurances of any community leader. My administration is more determined to rid Warri of illegal structures and beautify the city, so as to make it more investor – friendly, open job opportunities and make it habitable for living,” Tidi said.

Tidi commended furniture makers opposite Federal Government College, Warri for shifting their structures by themselves 9 meters away from the drainage in line with the directive of the Warri South Council Taskforce on Beautification.

He also ordered traders by the side of Ugbuwangue Market who shade their wears close to the road, to relocate immediately, saying his administration intends to use the space as car park, to enhance free flow of traffic at the Ugbuwangue axis of NPA Expressway.

The Warri South Local Government Chief Security Officer, who also directed traders

At Igbudu Market, Tidi directed traders by the road side and other areas in Warri to comply with the mandate of the council’s taskforce on beautification, assuring that his administration will collaborate with the relevant state government agencies and community leaders, to ensure that the reinvigorated urban renewal/ beautician drive is attained and sustained.

“I want to comments the chairman and members of the Warri South Task Force on Beatification. Upon inspection of their work today, I can tell you that the Task force has done a good job as they have been able to put residents in their toes.

“From the areas I was able to visit today, I can tell you that the level of compliance was very impressive. But I cannot say the same thing for those areas I have not visited,” Tidi said.

Vice Chairman of the taskforce, Hon. Mavis Onojeghwho, while speaking to Journalists during the exercise, appealed to Warri residents to corporate work the Task force so that Warri can be clean again.
