Delta State Election Petition Tribunal: PDP Say Akpovoka’s Accusations Against Tribunal Malicious, False
…Calls on Akpovoka to Withdraw Petition
Concerned People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Ughelli North/South/Udu Federal Constituencies, Delta State, have described recent publications in one of the national dailies by Mr. Julius Efeni Akpovoka of the Labour Party (LP) who accused the Delta State Elections Tribunal (Panel 1) sitting in Asaba, of attempting to manipulate justice in favour of his opponent and winner of the March 29, 2015 election, Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi, as false and malicious.
The PDP stakeholders stated this in a press statement signed by Hon. Emudia Akpoyoma ( Ughelli North), Dr. James Omorovwon (Ughelli South) and Hon. David Siluko (Udu) and made available to our correspondent.
They said: “Ordinarily, we would have waved aside the fact-distorted publication as a procedural legal contest between two brothers from the same local government, desirous of serving the same constituents, but for the monumental falsity, deliberate misrepresentations and vexatious allegations to mislead innocent and unsuspecting members of the public, especially in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency, we are compelled to set the records straight and expose the mischief and recklessness of Mr. Joseph Efeni Akpovoka.”
They therefore, noted that contrary to Akpovoka’s accusations, the Tribunal was deterred from determining the petition of Mr. Akpovoka by Akpovoka himself who they said wrote a petition against the same tribunal to the President of Court of Appeal, Abuja.
The PDP stakeholders said having reported a noble panel to a superintendent power by Mr. Akpovoka, the best thing for both parties to do was to wait.
They said the were bewildered by the “continued foul cry by the very initiator of this whole sordid misadventure.”
“We truly sympathize with Akpovoka who cannot control his frustration for failing to make good his case, thereby demonstrating a disturbing lack of familiarity with the rules of political engagement as well as the dire consequence of such misguided pronouncements.
“It is our candid advice to this political desperado that propaganda, terror-tactics and deliberate misinformation have no place in the serious business of the interpretation of the laws by highly knowledgeable men of integrity,” they said.
They called on Mr. Akpovoka to immediately withdraw his petition to the Honourable President of Court of Appeal, Abuja.
They also urged him to close ranks and make peace with the PDP winner of that election, “so that they can forge a united
front that will usher in dividends of the current dispensation for improvement in the lives, welfare and aspirations of the good people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency.”
They commended the first respondent and winner of the election, Hon. Solomon Ahwinahwi for not diminishing his self worth and dignity by engaging on the obviously sinking man in an unnecessary media war.
