CHEVRON Nigeria Limited (CNL) has organised, “Arrive Alive Safety Training Programme” for the general public in the oil rich city of  Warri, Delta State.

General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs (PGPA) of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), Mr.  Deji Haastrup said at the one day training programme held at the Wellington Hotel, that safety is a core value in Chevron and the company ensures employees and its contractors perform their work safely in order to go back home to their spouses and dependants  the way they came.

According to him, CNL also continues to show commitment to safety by taking the initiative outside the workforce, disclosing that the programme, aimed at teaching people the best driving practices also offers opportunity for interaction with road safety and traffic enforcement agencies.

He said that; “In addition to the regular training for our drivers, we have also kicked off similar training for drivers of our employees and for spouses of our employees starting from the Lagos office. Today’s programmme is aimed at imparting important teachings to drivers from different sections of the society to ensure safer driving on the roads.”

“By doing this, we are efficiently sharing our safety practices and awareness to third parties. We believe that safety awareness should not begin and end within the gates of Chevron, as it is important for the lives of our families, and all other road users”, he said.

Mr.  Haastrup, who was represented by Mr. Tunji Idowu, Manager, PGPA West added that; “Chevron is an industry leader in its commitment to protecting people and the environment and the company is active in many projects promoting health, economic development and education. This safe driving programme is one of such. It is in tune with Chevron’s core values.”

Nigeria, he stated is one of three African countries participating in the Arrive Alive Programme pioneered by Chevron, adding that through the partnership, the Company was also implementing child road safety programmes among pupils of select primary schools in some states around its operational areas in the Niger Delta region in addition to organizing enlightenment programmes for truck drivers and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

He reiterated that, when it comes to safety, collaborative partnership was important, saying; “We all have to take ownership of safety, especially road safety, for you, your loved ones and even the public at large” and encouraged the participants to make good use of the opportunity provided by the programme to learn more about safety tips and also take message home to their relations and friends.

The Warri Area Manager of CNL, Mr. Chima Nwogu said that the specialized drivers’ training programme helps to reinforce safe behavior among CNL drivers.

“In essence, our goals for organizing this event are not only to extend our safety culture to the general public, but also to enhance public safety and reduce road traffic accidents,” he said.
