According to the Governor at the church service which took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigeria was witnessing serious challenges that only love and kindness to one another can conquer, noting that Boko Haram was one of the challenges that Nigeria needs to wade through.

He emphasized that remembering the fallen heroes was important as “they died for Nigeria to remain as one; it is important that we remember their families in prayers.”

“It is important that we remember the Supreme Being who died for us to live; Jesus Christ died for all of us to have salvation, so, there is the need to truly worship Him, trust Him as a nation,” Governor Okowa said, adding, “only God can bring solution to our challenges.”

Governor Okowa used the occasion to challenge men of God to pray for Nigeria and remain the conscience of the nation by speaking the truth no matter whose ox is gored.

“The church should continue to be the conscience of the state, speak the truth, preach the message of salvation,” Governor Okowa said, observing that the year 2016 would be a positive year for the people of Delta State.

Rev. Olutomi Sodeinde in his sermon said, “some people fought, laid down their lives for us to have a nation, but, we should allow the word of God to come into our lives for us to have life.”

“Guard yourself with the word of God if you must win the battle of life,” he reiterated at the service which was attended by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, the chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Marshal Umukoro, representative of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Monday Igbuya, Chairman of Nigerian Legion in the state, Lt. Col. Daniel Amereh (rtd), Service Commanders, clergymen, and other eminent personalities from different fields of life.

At the occasion, prayers were offered for Nigeria, Delta State, among others.
