Why we instituted DELSU Praise Day – VC
By Francis Sadhere
The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Victor Peretomode has given reasons why management of the Institution decided to institute DELSU praise day, saying that God has been so good to the Institution.
The DELSU VC said praise is a powerful instrument to destroy and damage the strategies of Satan, adding that praise is the only way those who are alive can show gratitude to God for keeping them alive.
Prof. Peretomode stated this yesterday at the maiden edition of DELSU Praise Day with the theme “Come Let Us Praise the Lord,” which took place at the Convocation arena of the University in Abraka.
The DELSU VC said the praise day for the school will be an annual event, noting that though the Institution has always been praising God, management decided to create a special day dedicated solely to worship and praise God.
He said; “Today is DELSU Praise Day. It is a day that the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it. This praise day has been institutionalised. God has been wonderful to Delta State University both in infrastructural development, and we think even in spiritual dimension, we are moving higher. We are declaring a day of praises to the Almighty God.”
“Today we are going to join our hands and body together to praise the Lord. We will magnify His name. We will exult His awesomeness and at the end of the day I believe that we will be physically, emotionally and spiritually blessed at the end of the day,” he said.
“DELSU has been a praying university; we pray all the time, we worship in our respective churches. But today we are alive not because of our power or our might but by the grace of the Almighty God. If you are alive today, just like the Bible said: ” every living thing praise the lord.” So we have breath today, we should praise the Lord because I do not know of any dead man that is praising the Lord,” the VC added.
Giving his testimony, Prof. Peretomode said God has been saving him right from when he was a fisherman in his village, saying God had saved him from the clutches of death when the boat he was using to fish capsized in the river. According to him, God sent an Urhobo man to rescue him.
He also said that God has also saved him from the hands of armed robbers he ran into on his way to the campus, stressing that he narrowly escaped death that day by the divine favour of God.
In his sermon, the guest preacher, Pastor Polycap Mba called on all men to always remember to give thanks to God for all the wonderful things he has done for them.
The programme started with a praise/worship which saw everyone singing and dancing to good music provided by the music department of the institution, Evangelist E. Ofano, Our Saviour’s choir and the NIFEST Choir.
