Tejiri Ebikeme,

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Council, Comrade Williams Akporeha has commended the pragmatic initiatives taken by the Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan government in Delta state towards the development of the educational sector and ensuring measures by every child to access education in the state.

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Council,
Comrade Williams Akporeha

Comrade Akporeha made this commendation recently when he received the Students’ Union Government of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka led by its President, Comrade Obaro Kelvin Ohwojero on a solidarity visit to Congress Leadership at the Labour House, Asaba.

The state NLC boss noted that with the provision of different educational incentives by the state government, students in the state are now more equipped to pursue and realise their educational ambitions without much constraints.

According to him, ”our Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has made education in Delta state a hitch free journey towards the realisation of your future ambitions with the provision of free primary education, payment of NECO and WAEC fees and payment of undergraduate bursaries”.

Commending the state government on the introduction of ‘EDUMARSHAL’, Comrade Akporeha expressed optimism that the government is on the right direction moving towards setting a standard in Nigeria within the global quest for illiteracy reduction. “I must say that the introduction of that programme by the state government will not only blaze the trail in the Federal government’s effort on illiteracy reduction but also measure up to the provisions of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as well as the United Nations Child Rights Act”.

Comrade Akporeha further observed that the Delta state government had laid the tracks for students to walk up to their future with the provision of the post graduate overseas scholarship scheme.

He therefore enjoined students in the state to shun unnecessary distractions and study hard to be beneficiaries of the various government educational incentives. “The government have demonstrated a very clear concern for your future by providing you with overseas post graduate scholarship opportunity. All that is required from you is to show concern for yourself by studying hard and shunning all social vices that can put your future in jeopardy.”

The Delta State Labour Leader congratulated the DELSU Students’ Union Government on their successful elections and inauguration in office and wishes them a very fruitful and peaceful tenure.

Earlier in his remark, the President of the SUG, Comrade Obaro Kelvin Ohwojero said they were in Labour House to identify with the state NLC under the leadership of Comrade Williams Akporeha, whom they described as a man whose tenure has given voice to the voiceless and hope to the workers and masses in Delta state.  The students pledged their support and collaboration with the leadership of Congress towards the sustenance of the prevailing industrial peace and harmony in the state.
