Isaac Otiedhe, Head of Works Department, Warri South council, and Mrs Bola Elohor, during the courtesy visit.

The Warri South council chairman, Hon Dr Michael Tidi on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on the Commanding Officer, 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effurun, Delta State, Major Ismail Hussain, seeking effective collaboration between the army and the Warri South council.

The chairman made this call when he and his Executive members of the council paid the Commending Officer, 3 Battalion, Effurun, Delta State, Major Ismail Hussain, a courtesy visit.

The Warri South council boss told the 3 Battalion Commanding Officer that he was there to thank him forv the support the army has been giving to council.

He also said that he wants to seek the continued support of the army for greater good of the people of Warri South.

“We have decided to pay you this visit to thank you for the support you have been giving to us.

“You are one men who, whenever we call on you, you never shy away from your responsibilities.

“Like I was saying before, it appears that in our generation some of us are getting it right.

“Before now, people see positions, like the one are now, as titles. But I can tell you that you see your position at a call to service. Since you came to Warri I have seen you working tirelessly.

“I have had the opportunity to work side by side with you together with the sector Commander. We have seen the professionalism you both deploy in the course of your profession.

“So I said to myself that there will be no better way to start this second term than to come and say thank you for the support you gave to my people, and my administration, and to also use this opportunity to enjoin you and plead with you that come this second term, you redouble your support for us.

“I look forward to this collaboration and this synergy. Yes, we made some tremendous success in the first term, coupled with the grace of God, that is what has brought us to where we are today.

“People are already asking questions in the streets of Warri that, ‘is this the same Tidi that we saw in the first term?

“Since we came back, unlike some of my peers, we have not slept. The streets of Warri are wearing a new look because we quickly set up a beatification committee to change the Aesthetic nature of Warri.

“We want Warri metropolis to be at per with other modern cities in the world. We want to change the narrative about the level of filth in the town.

“There is no better time than now, to properly clean Warri. And we are doing this in conjunction with the Hon Sylvester Oromoni led State Task Force Committee on Environment. And of course they have been quite supportive as they have helped us evacuate our dirt that we have gathered. However, that is not without it’s challenges.

“We have so many dissidents in Warri. To me this is a sad commentary about my people. They just want to resist Authority and to them that embellished they’re souls.

“Over time we have tried to change this notion that we have. You don’t have to confront authority to prove your point. Even the Bible and the Quran made it clear to us that we should obey Constituted
authority. So please we will be needing your help in time to come.

“Council does not have the kind of money the the state and the Federal Government have.. So what we do is to set our priority right and we look at the low hanging fruits, and look at the little we can do.

“The governor in his inaugural address to us, made us to understand that what he wants us to do is to help him manage the relative peace in our respective communities and local governments, to see how we can improve on primary Health Care, how we can take primary health care services to the grass root as well as environmental sanitization.

“To me, these are the fruits any council chairman who knows his onions can easily pluck so that the people can feel the dividends of democracy,Tidi said.

Responding, Commanding Officer, 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Effurun, Major Ismail Hussain, thanked the chairman and his executive for visit promising to continue to support the council.

“We thank God for spearing our lives and I really appreciate your coming here to visit me and at the same time, we will continue to support timelessly because it is part of our mandate.

“When you say you are seeking our support, I don’t see it as that because it’s our mandate. We will surely do.

“So I assure you anytime your seek our support we will surely oblige. Thank you, Major Hussain said.
