UPU REAFFIRMS DESIRE FOR AN URHOBO TO EMERGE GOVERNOR

As political gladiators warm-up for the governorship slot from the three senatorial districts in Delta state for the 2015 general elections, the leadership of the Apex Socio-Cultural Organization in Urhob nation, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) has reaffirmed its’ earlier stand and desire to have one of it’s own emerge as governor of the state come 2015.

Gen. Patrick Aziza (rtd), President General of the UPUck Aziza (rtd) said the urhobos intend to achieve this aspiration in consultation with other ethnic nationalities in the State.

Represented by Chief Joseph Omene, first Deputy President General of the UPU when Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, a governorship hopeful visited the apex socio-cultural organization in Adagbrassa-Ugolo, country home of the President General in furtherance of his consultation with stakeholders on his gubernatorial aspiration.

Reiterating the unquenchable thirst of the UPU for an Urhobo governor, the Preident General noted that the only way the body could demonstrate to the people of the Urhobo nation that it had done well was for an Urhobo descent to emerge as the state governor come 2015.

While pointing out that Obarisi Omo-Agege was the first governorship aspirant in Urhobo land to intimate the UPU of his intention to vie for governorship, Gen. Aziza applauded his immense contributions to the political and socio-economic development of the Urhobo nation.

He acknowledged Obarisi Omo-Agege’s contribution to the stability of the UPU just as he maintained that the governorship hopeful had the interest of Urhobo nation at heart.

Earlier in his remarks at the meeting, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege said he was offering himself for the governorship position because of his passion for all Deltans and the overall growth and development of the State.

Obarisi Omo-Agege said that the governorship position had never at any time been zoned to any senatorial district, pointing out that when Chief Felix Ibru, Chief James Ibori and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan vied for the position in 1992, 1999 and 2007 respectively, aspirants from other senatorial districts contested with them.

According to him, nobody had emerged as the state governor on the basis of zoning or ethnic nationality, reiterating that he had the capacity to prosecute the governorship ambition and improve on the lots of all Deltans.
