PRESIDENT General (PG) of the new Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Chief Tuesday Onoge has said he would no longer continue in media war with the Chief Joe Omene’s faction of the UPU over the differences which has turn apart the apex Urhobo leadership organ.

Chief Tuesday Onoge

Chief Onoge stated this at his Ekpan residence in Uvwie council area, Delta state where a faction of the UPU youth wing led by Freeborn Mukoro mobilized teeming Urhobo youths to pledge their support and loyalty to the new UPU leadership.

He said, “It is no longer news that Omene’s UPU was displaced for abuse of power, particularly in trying to mislead Urhobo on the choice of a consensus candidate for the 2015 Delta state governorship against the common agreement entered in Ovwiamuge declaration.

“In the past it would have been easy for Omene and  his suspended exco  to go away with misleading the people, but thank God there was Ovwiamuge declaration which spelt clearly to every Urhobo that Olorogun O’tega Emerhor is Urhobo’s consensus governorship candidate and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the party Urhobo will support all the way in the coming elections.”

He added that under the circumstance, the new UPU leadership would rather concentrate its efforts at restoring the integrity of the UPU by ensuring that Delta Central sticks to the provisions of Ovwimuge declaration in the coming election rather than engaging in war of words with the Omene in its fightback.

“I read Omene claiming in the papers on Saturday that Ovwiamuge declaration was made in the middle of last year. Now he does not even remember the declaration that came from his own mouth on March 28th 2014. Is March middle of last year?

“It shows how personal sentiments have overshadowed his commitment to UPU duty. As a new EXCO, it is no longer our place to join issues with him in the media. The fight is now Omene against entire Urhobo and we are happy that traditional rulers, women, youths and all Urhobos are trooping in to identify with us for insisting on truth and justice for Urhobo nation”, he added.
