Residents of Yenagoa were recently agog as stakeholders, traditional rulers, community development committee chairmen, youth groups, and women organizations converged at the ultra-modern Yenagoa municipal hall for a one day sensitization workshop on streets naming/house numbering.

Several years after the creation of Bayelsa State most of the streets and houses in the metropolis were not named or numbered, this prompted the leadership of Hon. Chubby Benwalson, the major of Yenagoa Local Government Council and the Ministry of Capital City Development Authority CCDA, Ministry of Environment to collaborate in achieving this great venture in identifying the naming and numbering of streets and houses.

In line with this great development, a technical committee was appointed for the great task ahead and the committee has already swung into action with credible members appointed. It is being  chaired by Chief Sunday Ogum a renowned administrator representing Yenagoa Local Government Council and secretary appointed from capital city development Authority (CCDA) and other members.

Chief Ogum, the Chairman of the technical committee, while fielding questions from news men, thanked the stakeholders in appointing them with this enormous assignment, pledging to ensure the best from the committee in the exercise of their duties, and appealed to the general public to co-operate with the committee members for support in making Yenagoa metropolis a modern city of excellence.

Chief Ogum further stated that the essence of the one day sensitization meeting was to create awareness for the residents, and solicits their assistance in realizing the aims and objectives of
the unique project.  Chief Ogum also hinted that a bye law of street naming and house numbering has been signed into law in Yenagoa Local Government Council.

Also, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Abila while interacting with newsmen commended the technical team for organization the one day. Stakeholders meeting which he said was very timely.

He said with the street naming and house numbering, Yenagoa metropolis would be restructured, saying that  many buildings and streets would be restructured, and appealed to residents of Yenagoa to comply with the committee to ensure this great project come to fruition.
