The Nigerian Union of Journalist, Delta Broadcasting Services (DBS), Warri, now has a new executive to pilots its affairs for next three years.

The Newly Elected NUJ, DBS, Warri Executive: (R-L) Comrade Ese Umo, Treasurer,Comrade Daniel Oji, Chairman, Comrade Nkem Nweke, Secretary, Comrade Peterson Itiowe, Auditor and Comrade Elizabeth Nukpedi, Vice Chairman.

The keenly contested NUJ DBS Warri chapel election was held under the watchful eyes of the Delta State NUJ council led by the state chairman comrade Norbert Chiazor.

The election which was adjudge as the freest and fairest election ever held in the history of the Chapel saw Comrade Daniel Orji emerging as the Chairman with 18 votes as against 16 votes of Comrade Timi Ebikagboro.

Other members of the new executive include; Comrade Elizabeth Nukpedi, Vice Chairman, Comrade Nkem Nweke, Secretary, Comrade Chiamaka Azuka, Financial Secretary, Comrade Ese Umo, Treasurer and Comrade Peterson Itiowo, Auditor.

The election which conducted under the watchful eyes of the State NUJ executive was described as a free and fare election by the state executives.

The electoral committee led by its chairman comrade Malcolm Oteri commended the contestants for their peaceful posture all through the campaign and election period.

Chairman of the NUJ, Delta State Chapter, Comrade Nobert Chiazor said they were very happy for the way and manner members of the NUJ, DBS chapel conducted themselves throughout the election, calling on the new elected executives to discharge their duties with all sense of sincerity.

Vice Chairman of the NUJ, Delta Chapter said the union decided to adopt the Open Secret voting system so as to make sure that the election was free and fair.

The newly elected chairman NUJ DBS chapel comrade Daniel Oji thanked all for their encouragement and support, adding that the confidence reposed on the new executive will not be lost. He promised team work, dialogue and staff welfare as top priority in the agenda of the new executive.

Meanwhile, the new executive paid a courtesy call to the General Manager, DBS,Warri,  Mr Tunde Omonode and Mrs. Evelyn Otunye, Deputy General Manager, DBS, Warri.

The GM, Mr. Omonode who congratulated the new executive for their victory, described the election as very peaceful and a sign of good things to come to the DBS, Warri.

Mr. Omonode assured the new executive that the management’s doors are open to them, saying that they should feel free to approach the management for clarification of any issue and should do away with rumours.

“All I want to tell you is to trust God for direction, wisdom and for knowledge because as a leader you are going to meet temptation, you are going to meet a lot of things but when the spirit of God is with you, it will then direct you and before you know it you will be having a wonderful tenure and people will be talking about you,” Omode told the new Chairman.

On her part, the Deputy Manager, Mrs. Evelyn Otunye advised the new executive to always explore the power of dialogue and negotiation to achieve their goals between members of the chapel and management of DBS.

She said; “I will advice you work with every member of the union and do not leave anyone behind. Let everybody go along with you as long as your ability can carry them. The welfare of the members should be your priority. Make sure that every member of the union is not cheated in anything you are doing.”
