The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have initiated a proactive sensitization move to build strong ties between the cattle rustlers and farmers in Edo State, as part of its methods adopted to prevent conflicts and other communal related clashes.

The State Commandant of the Corps, Dr Benito Eze, stated this during an event held recently in Benin City to build trust that would enhance coexistence across the divides.

Eze informed the herdsmen to report to the appropriate authorities any issue that may arise in the course of carrying out their legitimate businesses, rather than resorting to violence and therefore taking laws into their hands.

His Words: “the NSCDC has established a special unit to promptly intervene in cases involving farmers and the herdsmen”.

The commandant expresses happiness that there had been no report of any clash between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

He assured that the corps would also engage farmers, to promote peaceful co-existence in the state.

Eze blamed reports of clashes in some parts of country to communication breakdown, and advised all stakeholders to meet regularly to engender mutual trust and understanding.
