The people of the Niger Delta region have conferred the Niger Delta
Award for Leadership Excellence on President Goodluck Jonathan, just
as they reaffirmed their faith in his leadership as they passed a vote
of implicit confidence on him at the just-concluded maiden Niger Delta
Joint-Media Summit.

The people have also passed a vote of confidence in the National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga
Tukur-led, saying they were firmly behind him in his leadership of the
President’s party just as they assured of their readiness to work
assiduously with the PDP and other political parties to ensure that
President Jonathan returns to power in 2015.

The summit put together by the Niger Delta Media-watch Group in Asaba featured a delegate session with at least ten delegates from each of
the nine states of the Niger Delta in attendance while a public session where over 20 interest groups from across the region gathered in what could be described as a day of eulogies for President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR.

Speaking during the public session, Evan. Daniel Ekuigbo, President,
Niger Delta Media-watch Group said the vote of implicit confidence and
conferment of the Niger Delta Award for Leadership Excellence on Mr.
President were the token of the peoples appreciation for Jonathan’s
articulate leadership that has brought a great sense of pride to Niger
Deltans in particular and Nigerians at large.

According to Evan. Ekuigbo, “I also consider it expedient to quickly
inform you that earlier today before the close of the delegates’
session, the people of the Niger Delta region represented by the
delegates, passed a vote of implicit confidence on President Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, if anything, this goes to show that the people
of the Niger Delta region are solidly behind our dear President in his
leadership of the Nigerian nation”..

In comments, Ambassador Samuel Oghotomo, Deputy President, Nigerian Youth Mandate moved another motion during the public session, for the various groups in attendance at the public session to adopt the vote of implicit confidence earlier passed on the President at the delegates’ session, which was seconded by Princess Benedicta
Dafiaghor, President of Women Solidarity Front and unanimously
endorsed by all groups present.

Delivering a keynote lecture during the public session, Prince Obaro
Unuafe emphasized that President Jonathan has been on a rescue mission to salvage the damages done to the Nigerian nation by successive administrations, he pointed out that the steps being taken by
President Jonathan were capable of putting Nigeria ahead of its
contemporaries in the comity of nations.

Also speaking, Hon. Ese Okobia, Comrade Chris Obaro and several other
heads of the various groups who attended the public session, commended the initiative by the Niger Delta Media-watch group to convene such a summit at a time that dissenting voices were sounding from some corners of the country.

special thanksgiving at the Global Prayer Ministry, Abraka, presided
over by Pastor Abel Ekiugbo, where special prayers were offered for the
nation and President Goodluck Jonathan who he described as a God-sent
leader at such a time in Nigeria’s history.
