It was a kind gesture and a dream come through as MTN Foundation recently donated 100 chairs and desks as well as 20 pieces of teacher’s furniture valued at not less than N3million to Igbide Grammar School in Isoko South Local Government Council of Delta State.

Receiving the items on behalf of the school, the President of Igbide Community, Dr. David Edegware said that the support of corporate organizations such as MTN was necessary to complement Government’s efforts in the education sector.

“Government cannot do it alone hence it needs the assistance of corporate organizations as well as wealthy individuals”, Edegware said.

The community leader then thanked MTN Foundation for the gesture and implored the students and teachers to make judicious use of the furniture.

He also lauded the efforts of Mrs. Miriam Ikechi, an indigene of the Community who facilitated the donation.

Earlier, the regional sales manager South East MTN Nigeria, Mrs. Gloria Ozako said that the donation was part of the organizations “ its initiative aimed at giving every Nigerian the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities.

“As part of its corporate social responsibility, MTN is committed to the development of the society stressing that under the 1st phase of the initiative 200 communities with focus on provision of transformers, school furniture, boreholes as well as other nominated projects are being implemented across Nigeria.

The nominator of Igbide Grammar School, Igbide, Miriam Ikechi represented by Mr. Oke Ogbedhere expressed her delight and surprise at the initiative’s transparent process.

“I read about the nomination in the newspapers and decided to give it a try by nominating my community school. To my greatest surprise, I received a call from MTN that the school I nominated has been shortlisted. Their team later came to the school for verification exercise and today, to the Glory of God, the furniture has been commissioned an handed over to the school”.

“I commend MTN Foundation for this wonderful initiative, she noted.
