A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State and former House of Assembly candidate for Warri South Constituency 1 in the 2023 general elections, Dr. Michael Merogun passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his developmental strides even as he empowered hundreds of women in the 12 wards of Warri South Local Government Council Area.
Dr. Merogun, also known as king of the Grassroot, made this declaration in Warri while addressing youths and women in Warri South LGA of his intention to re-contest for the state house of assembly seat in the 2027 general elections.
The astute politician who empowered hundreds of women and pressure groups in Warri South with cash gift to assist them in various businesses in our localities assured them that he is set to render effective and more efficient representation to the people and bring more democracy dividend and development to Warri.
According to him, “any aspiring candidate to any elective position must bank on the massive support of the people who are the grassroot and signpost for success.”
He charged them to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 elections, saying Seyi Tinubu as a youth with immense talents is set to empower more youths in the country as they are the future of Nigeria.
The immediate past Warri South Constituency 1 candidate under the APC who is also the promoter of the Dr. Michael Merogun Grassroot Movement listed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu achievement to include but not limited to the creation of Regional Development Councils for the six geo-political zones in the country,
subsidy removal, the ongoing Lagos-Ekpe-Calabar Coastal Highway projects, re-opening of the Warri sea port that’s already ongoing, stabilisation of the exchange rate, and student loans scheme amongst others.
Dr. Merogun expressed sadness over the INEC recent Ward Delineanation exercise for the Warri Federal Constituency, saying the proposed ward delineanation is unacceptable.
According to him, the whole exercise is totally biased, unfair and unjust to the Itsekiri people as it would consign them into political irrelevance in a state where they contribute the bulk of the revenue that drives the state economy.
He therefore appealed for more understanding from the stating, “I strongly appeal to my Itsekiri brothers and sisters, the Urhobos and Ijaws living in warri that we should continue to live peace, we should not allow the illegality done by INEC on the ward delineation matter to tear us apart.
“We can share our views in one voice for the public to properly understand our plight without violence.
“We have been able to submit our proposal to counter that presented by INEC and it will be proper that INEC do the needful by getting right facts, materials and concrete information before it’s final submission by not robbing Peter to pay Paul”, he admonished.
Speaking at massively attended event held at the Blossom Hall, Ugbuwangue, a pioneer Chieftain of the APC in Delta State, Prince Yemi Emiko, Hon. Oti Orugboh, Tunde Okorodudu and the APC South Senatorial Chairman, Mr. Austin Oribioye including the Chairman of Warri South LGA Mr. Maro Owumi welcome the state Governor, Elder Sheriff Oborovweri and his PDP decampees into their with open hands but stressed that they must by the manifesto guiding the affairs of the APC.
They assured the teaming APC supporters that through matured discussion and negotiations with the Governor’s former PDP structure, all will be well in the state as there’s going to be a favorable “give and take formula” for sharing political offices that will reflect a win-win balance for the benefits of all Deltans.
The APC supporters in Warri South thereafter passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assuring him of their votes come 2027, just as they tasked Dr. Merogun to come all out for the race saying that “it’s the first time in history a candidate that lost an election in the state is coming out to empower electorates in such magnificent way from his private purse”, stating that they will all line up behind him come 2027 for more democracy dividends.
The women leaders at the event all spoke glowingly about the leadership qualities of Dr. Merogun insisting that even successful politicians have never thought about women empowerment after elections and thanked him for remembering them.
The highlight of the occasion is the unanimous vote of confidence on President Tinubu and endorsement of Dr. Merogun for their 2027 political ambition.
