The EGCDF boss said the people of the community were passing through pains and untold hardship, no thanks to the abandoned housing project embarked upon by the administration of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

He recalled that houses in the community were levelled by men of the Nigerian Army during an unprovoked invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom some years ago.

The EGCDF Chairman said that the people of the community were still living like refugees in the land of their birth since the military invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom and appealed to the State Governor to revisit the issue of the abandoned housing project.

Chief Johnny said the people were now living in fears with the coming of the rains again as they are homeless.

He said that; “Now that the rains are here again, I am afraid for the people of my community who are exposed to the elements. They have no roof over their heads and they are scattered all over the place and this is why I want the Governor who is very familiar with the housing project to come to our rescue by completing the project.”

According to him, “The Governor should ask the contractor handling the Okerenkoko community housing to go back to site in order to ameliorate the terrible situation of my people who have been suffering since the invasion of Gbaramatu Kingdom by men of the Nigerian Army.”

“If the State Government is having issues with the contractor, let such issues be resolved as soon as possible so that he can go back to site to complete the project and the houses allocated to the people who are dying daily because of the harsh conditions they are passing through”, he said.

Johnny added that, “The Contractor is very known to the State Governor and the Governor is no stranger to the Okerenkoko community housing project,it is my passionate appeal to the Governor on behalf of the peace loving people of Okerenkoko community to complete the abandoned housing project.”
