The Nigeria Immigration Service, Delta State Command, today clamped down on hundreds of illegal immigrants in Warri.

The Immigration Service and other sister security agencies comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corpse, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Nigeria Immigration Service, raided the Igbudu market and the popular Warri garage and arrested the illegal immigrants.

A senior Immigration Official at the Warri Area Office who pleaded anonymity, said the arrests was sequel to a directive from the State Command to clamp down on illegal immigrants into the country with a view to checking the activities of Fulani herdsmen and possible attacks from the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The Immigration Official gave the assurance that immigrants with their permit as well as Nigerians arrested would be released immediately while illegal immigrants without permit would be redeployed back to their various countries at the appropriate time.

As at the time of filing this report, some of the illegal immigrants were seen evading arrests from the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies.

Some traders at the Igbudu market appealed to the Delta State Government to come to the aid of the Hausas in the area and save them from attacks from the youths.
