A 55 year-old man identified as Mr Anthony Oghogho, Chairman of the Udu/Ughelli South chapter of Welders Association was gunned down on Wednesday afternoon by unknown gunmen, in Effurun, Headquarters of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to investigations, the man was said to had earlier withdrawn some money from a bank in company of his friends and had dropped him off at a shop when the unknown gunmen dressed in coveralls shot him point blank after some exchanged of words. Further investigations revealed that the gun men came in an Audi car.

It was also gathered that the deceased who hailed from Iwhrekan in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State had three wives and several children.
Meanwhile, a Warri based Human Rights Activist, Mr. Zik Gbemre (JP) has written to the Police over the gruesome murder of Mr. Anthony Oghogho, saying that assassination cannot be ruled out.
In a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), ZONE 5, on Wednesday, human rights activist, Mr Zik Gbemre (JP), and  available to our Correspondent today in Warri, he said that the deceased was shot on June 6th, 2013 in the afternoon in a cold blood around PTI Junction, Effurun. .
He wrote thus; “Dear AIG Zone 5, a bit of a sad news. One of my kingsmen, Anthony Oghogho was shot dead today (5/6/2013) afternoon in cold blood around PTI Junction, Effurun (which is under Ebrumede Police Station near Ekpan-Warri) by unknown gunmen, while he was coming from the bank.”
According to him; “It appears the said gunmen were hired assassins, as it was said that they accosted him in a small conversation before shooting him dead. They only took the money with him to make it look like an armed robbery.”
He also informed the AIG that; ” The said kingsman, Anthony Oghogho who was from the same village with me, was chairman of Welders Association Udu/Ughelli South Areas and there has been some chairmanship tussle as regards his position. The case is under Ebrumede Police station near Ekpan-Warri, where we are trying to get the Police statement to release his body and have him taken to the mortuary. I want to appeal for full investigation of the killing of the said Anthony Oghogho.”
