The Delta state Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for Warri South Constituency I in the April 2015 general election, Mr. Akpobome Bright Obodo has been shot dead by unknown gunmen at Orhunwhorhun, Udu Local Government Area of Delta state.

This coming at a time when it is being rumored that judgement in the House of Assembly Elections Tribunal in Delta State will deliver Judgement Monday November 9.

Our correspondent gathered from impeccable sources that Mr. Akpobome Bright Obodo had challenged the victory of Hon.Dennis Omovie an acclaimed winner of the election at House of Assembly Tribunal sitting in Asaba.

It is also gathered that the Gun men who trailed the victim with Jeta car escaped with his Toyota Camry abandoning their vehicle at the scene.

An eyewitness told our correspondent that, “Obodo allegedly called his wife to prepare food for him, that he was coming home to eat when gun men in a Jeta Car trailed him in his Ashes Color Toyota Car to his area in Orhunwhorhun Town near The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG before he was shot dead.”

The Eyewitness noted that Obodo in his attempt to escape from the gun men was shot dead after they had blocked him with their car asking him, “I think you want to rule? Come and rule na.”

“The sound of gun shots in the area made us residents to come out to find out what and who exactly had been shot when suddenly we saw the gun men driving in Obodo’s car and shooting sporadically to the point of injuring a resident in the area who have been hospitalized in an undisclosed hospital,” the eye witness said.

The eyewitness added that they found Obodo lifeless body lying on the ground after the gun men had escaped, adding that  his corpse has been deposited in the mortuary since last night.”

Our correspondent also gathered that Mr. Obodo had allegedly lodged complaints in various police stations within Warri and its environs that unknown gun men have been trailing him and threatening his life without any response.

The Campaign Director of Akpobome Bright Ododo, Mr. Ben Obire did not respond to calls put across to his mobile phone number.

Our correspondent can report that as at 12pm on Sunday November, 8, 2015,youths loyal to the deceased Obodo in Igbudu area of Warri South Local Government Area have allegedly engaged their counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party in the area in a gun dual.

However, our correspondent cannot confirm if there was any casualty from the crisis emanating from the death of Mr. Obodo.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State, DSP, Celestina Kalu could not be reached as at the time of filling this report as she did not respond to calls or text messages put across to her mobile phone.
